1979. Jeremy Hackett and Ashley Lloyd-Jennings meet on Portobello Road, with a shared love of second-hand traditional British men’s clothing.
A business partnership is soon started, the open their first store under the name ‘Hackett’ selling fine quality second-hand traditional British clothing and accessories. Hackett & Lloyd-Jennings decide to manufacture from new, as the supply of second hand goods could not keep up with demand. Following on from the success of sponsoring the England Rugby team, Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race, Hackett also starts to work with the Aston Martin Racing team. The company continues to grow with more store openings. Hackett becomes the official clothing sponsor to the Lotus F1Racing team. This sponsorship saw team personnel wearing Hackett London’s unique, distinctive clothing and the Hackett London logo featured on the Lotus Racing cars. Hackett is today a brand that is truly British and has an authenticity and integrity that belies its years.
